FAME: PARANOIA+ : Design & Media Diploma Graduation Show
I was at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) last night for the opening of the Paranoia Design & Media Graduation Show to view the works of the final year students and also to support a few of my friends who have graduated. Wanna say ConGraduations to them and all the best in the road ahead.
Before I went for the graduation show, I thought, what is the meaning of the word “Paranoia”. I checked out Wiki and it tells me:
Paranoia is a thought process characterized by excessive anxiety or fear, often to the point of irrationality and delusion. Paranoid thinking typically includes persecutory beliefs concerning a perceived threat towards oneself. In the original Greek, παράνοια (paranoia) simply means madness (para = outside; nous = mind). Historically, this characterization was used to describe any delusional state.
I thought it sounds interesting to name the theme of the Art graduate show “Paranoia”. Oh well, I fully understand when I stepped into the galleries. The galleries were divided into two sides. One side is for Media and another side for Design. I was totally taken back by all the art works when I stepped into the gallery because there were so many wonderful works by so many students being displayed all over the place. The colours, lights, design, animation… transported me to another world where I’m totally lost in the Art works. It’s quite an experience to have this kinda feel.
I not only view the Art works but also interacted with quite a handful of student grads and get to know more about their Art piece, their interest in Arts, the career path which they see in their road ahead.
It was an eventful night and it gave me some inspiration for my work ahead. =)
The Paranoia Grad Show is held at NAFA Galleries 1 & 2, Lim Hak Tai Gallery over at NAFA Campus 1 at Bencoolen Street from the 28th to 30th May 2009.
