Chinese actress Gong Li a Singaporean citizen: official

SINGAPORE, Nov 10, 2008 (AFP) – Leading Chinese actress Gong Li, who just last year served as a delegate during her homeland’s annual session of parliament, has become a citizen of Singapore, an official said Monday.

“That is confirmed,” the assistant to lawmaker Lee Bee Wah, who presided over the weekend citizenship ceremony, told AFP.

The Straits Times reported that the 43-year-old Gong — star of “Memoirs of a Geisha” and “Farewell My Concubine” — collected her Singapore citizenship certificate from Lee on Saturday, along with 149 other new citizens.

In 2007, Gong was a delegate to the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, the nation’s lower house.

The Straits Times did not say why Gong decided to become a citizen of Singapore, a majority ethnic-Chinese city-state, but said she had married local businessman Ooi Hoe Seong in 1996.

Welcome Gong Li, have a great time here in Singapore with all your fellow China people here. Haha… I bet Zoe Tay and Fann Wong will be cursing and swearing at China people coming to Singapore to fight over their rice bowls.  C’mon Jack Neo, make a movie on this!!

  1. quite surprised u can said such things about our own SIngaporean actresses ! Thought u are kind charitable hearted !?

  2. Hi jojo, some things in reality bound to happen and will happen. I’m sure Zoe and Fann won’t ust sit around and act like nothing has happened.

Although I am kind and charitable hearted, we cannot perceive that this world is like a fairytale with everybody with an angel light on their head.
Instead, we must go out and see the world like I’m going to Zimbabwe to help the poor folks there to face and overcome their challenges in their life.

People in Singapore are really lucky as you won’t come across people starving and dying of diseases and rotting to death by the roadside.

However, in other third world country, it’s another different scene and situation altogether.

That’s what I call, the “harsh reality”.

  3. U live thinking u are one of the few that do charity things. Do you know I knew by accident the poeple around me that my friends around me has all been to many 3rd world countries like cambodia, vietnam, india , china, indonesia , zimbawee etc. They never advertise themselves !

Doing charitable acts does not entails only going to 3rd world countries !
U can be in Singapore and yet u can help those in need.

I am asking why are you talking bad about people ? I am sure Zoe and Fann will be extremely upset! Why makes you so sure they are that narrow minded or hearted ?

  4. Hey jojo or bobo… or whatever.

    Hold it, hold it…

You’re visiting MY BLOG and why can’t I tell people that I’m going to 3rd world country to do charitable acts? Am I NOT ALLOWED to blog about my life? I would like to clarify that I am NOT ADVERTISING. I DON’T get paid for nuts. Get this straight right into your head!!

I have been living in Singapore and I have helped many of those who are in need. I donate money, I help needy people. I’ve quite much. So I guess you should save your effort posting nonconstructive comments here and go elsewhere and tell fellow Singaporeans to have a big heart and do more charitable acts. I am very upset at how come Singaporeans can be so selfish and center-minded when it comes to charity.

Me talking bad? Since when or which line DID I ever talk bad?? Make this clear. This IS MY BLOG. I have the freedom of speech, I decide what I want to post here. Oh, did I go against the law? Did I go on a personal attack or flame anyone? You want to file a defamation suit against me? C’mon and don’t be so naive for goodness sake. Entertainment industry is very dark with lots of gossips and stuffs. I don’t think I am the only one on this planet who share the same point of view.

If you’re not happy about my blog post or entry, you can choose not to read or visit. I am FINE with it by all means.

HELLO!! I like to welcome you to the HARSH REALITY of this WORLD. You’re not living in a world of fairytale where everything is beautiful.

Oh, if you’re wondering why am I sounding too harsh towards you. It’s because i’m not a cartoon character where everything is funny and cute. You asked for it and here, you get what you want.

Take it and get over it man.

  5. Haha… Didn’t know there was a mini war going on here already.

Not taking sides, but seriously Jojo, if you are a fan of our local actresses, good for you! I dun think Sparky meant this post as an insult. Think it is more like a wake up call to our local entertainment industry to UP their standards.

Wun you like to see Singapore the next hollywood where quality productions are made?

Chill already you guys… *Peact Out* =P

  6. I don’t mind this war going on. In fact, my blog is getting more hits like this. Haha… just like xiaxue like to flame and gossip others. Her blog gets hella number of hits everday.

My blog hits went up from average of 150 hits per day last week to almost average 200 hits per day this week. Which is…good and bad too. It attracts more people here to post nonconstructive comments who don’t have an open mind to face other criticism and opinions from other people. Don’t know why some people are so narrow minded. Don’t care them already. I can choose which comments to entertain and which to delete them.

However, coming back to topic. Seriously Singapore entertainment standards are really getting from bad to worst. I don’t want to say much. It’s time for them to wake up and face the whole new world of Hollywood and the tough fight of Chinese movies in the market.

I believe that Jack Neo can make a difference since he’s brainchild who started off local movies with his Liang Po Po which is the first successful movie in Singapore to rake in a huge amount of profits.
