Sichuan Mala Steamboat Dinner @ Geylang!
Oh yes… I went Geylang last night for a wonderful steamboat dinner! This place is so popular with many steamboat diners as we walk down those rows of shophouses, I can easily see all the different types of steamboats. From Herbal steamboat, Tom Yam steamboat to Chongqin steamboat, Sichuan mala steamboat etc. You name it, Geylang has it!
Met my darling and her friends at Kallang MRT station at 6pm. Surprisingly those girls are there early. (I wasn’t late ok?! The time in the train shows 5:58pm when I alight). I guess they can’t wait for the food. Haha… We made walked into the many “lorongs” of Geylang. Encountered a few mamasans and some hookers along the way. =X Luckily they never come to approach me, because of the complicated background in this red light district, I actually brought a knife with me for self-protection.
When we reached the steamboat restaurant, we ordered a yuanyang steamboat. There is a partition in between the steamboat to have two different type of soup in it. So we ordered a Herbal chicken soup & a yummy-licious Sichuan mala soup. I love the taste of the Sichuan mala soup but it’s a little oily. I guess Singaporeans will love it. It just spice up your taste buds and leave a numbing (嘛)sensation after that.
This restaurant is very special, only vegetable dishes are left on the buffet table for you to pick. For the meat dishes, although it’s buffet style, you order it ala carte and the chefs prepare freshly it in the kitchen for you to ensure the quality of all dishes. There are more than 20 dishes on the buffet table to choose from and more than 30 meat dishes to be ordered from the ala carte buffet menu. The most unique thing is there are more than 15 different types of condiments for you to mix your own special “potion” to go along with your favourite food.
It looks like this. The soup is definately good at this restaurant.
And the food is really very nice and special because they prepare it the traditional Sichuan style. There are so many food which I’ve not seen before in the usual steamboat restaurants. I can’t wait to try everything that is on the table. Like fried sweet potato, beancurd skin, pig’s ear, chicken liver and my favourite Sichuan sauce chicken which is really heavenly. The sweet, tender and juicy meat bouncing in the mouth.
We ordered lots more dishes. Sorry I never take any photos at all as I was so busy eating. There are so many stuffs on the table. Sorry no fishballs and hotdogs here. They serve all high grade food over here. They have their famous Dumplings, Turkey Ham, Prawns, Fish slice, Crabs, Wantons, Beef slices, oyster mushrooms, giant crabsticks… so much more.
I’m sure we all had a really great great dinner. Each person paid about $20++ each and we had such a tremendous dinner!
